History of Diamond Golf International

1978 - During his 5 years as shop manager at the Oaks Park Golf Centre in Surrey, England, the company's founder, Chris Treacy, had spotted a gap in the golf industry that needed filling - specialist supplies of club repair tools, machinery and components. Diamond Golf began trading in 1978 from Chris' home in Worthing, West Sussex, England. Diamond Golf was essentially responsible for starting the repair supply trade in Europe.

1980 - The company expanded its horizon's by publishing a catalogue of products and mailed this to professionals throughout the UK. This became an annual event and eventually the mailings were widened to take in all of Europe.

1981 - As well as the growing need for club repair materials, Chris also recognised the need to teach club pro's and their assistants how to make and repair clubs. Chris made his first contact with Tom Wishon in 1981 when Tom took Chris through a training school. Armed with these new skills, Chris set about starting his own hugely successful club repair schools from a new premises in Worthing.

1983 - Chris' wife, Jan, joined the company to maintain the growing pile of office work, and was soon followed by their son, Daren, in 1983, as a workshop technician.

1985 - The business moved to larger rented premises in Storrington, West Sussex. In the mid eighties Tom Wishon had moved to Dynacraft Golf Products, based in Ohio, USA. Dynacraft became specialists in club head design and so the next natural step was for Diamond Golf to begin to buy club heads to compliment the growing range of shaft and grip components. This was the beginning of the custom fit side of the business.

During the early 1980's period Diamond Golf became original distributors for major shaft and grip manufacturers, such as True Temper, Aldila, Grafalloy, Golf Pride, Avon and Apollo.

1988 - On the move again, this time to a light industrial unit in Ford, West Sussex. This move afforded a great deal more space to house workshops, offices and warehousing. The business still operates from this property today.

1990 - A customer of Dynacraft for five years, in 1990 the company entered into an arrangement whereby Diamond Golf became Dynacraft's European distributor. This move helped to expand both businesses in the European market place.

During the 1990's Diamond Golf worked hard to maintain it's position as Europe's premier component supplier. Where tools and supplies were once the dominant features of the range; heads, shafts and grips now formed the bulk. The emergence of metal woods helped to grow the range and graphite shafts were beginning to make inroads into the market and gain acceptance from many golfers.

In this period several more world renowned manufacturers were added to the distribution portfolio: UST, Rapport and FM Precision shafts. Lamkin and Winn grips.

1999 - Due to ill health, Chris stepped down as Managing Director in November 1999 and handed over to his son, Daren.

2001 - Sadly, Chris passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His foresight and determination pushed Diamond Golf to the forefront of the golf industry. As well as helping to develop the component sector in Europe, he also served on the board of the British Golf Industry Association, and assisted in raising funds for SPARKS charity. He was an industry stalwart and well known on both sides of the Atlantic.

2002 - Alan Peskett and Colin Lord became directors of the company. Both have served many years with Diamond Golf. Alan's main responsibility is with purchasing while Colin is responsible as sales director.

2003 - In recent years Diamond Golf has also been distributing teaching and training aids. Seeing a niche for this relatively new and expanding market, the officers of Diamond Golf have formed a new company called Fireball Sports aimed at specialising in the market of training aids and will sell both to the trade and consumers.

2004 - Diamond Golf awarded distribution of Nippon shafts. Another top quality steel shaft manufacturer with one of the lightest steel iron options in their range, weighing in under 75g.

2006 - Following the demise of Dynacraft in 2005, Diamond Golf established new distribution rights for several component head companies, including Ralph Maltby Golf Works, Bang and most notably - Tom Wishon Golf Technology. Wishon's own company was established just a few year's earlier but has already gained a reputation for high quality and style in his components.

Diamond Golf is also delighted to add Graphite Design International to it's range of shaft distributions. GDI has a strong reputation for quality and is renowned for it's emergence as a consistent winner on the world tours.

2007 - Versus heads have created a stir in the industry with their interchangeable drivers. The range can now be found in the Diamond Golf range.

2008 - Super quality shafts from Mitsubishi Rayon have won favour with the world's greatest golfers and their Diamana range is top of the pile. Diamond Golf is proud to be awarded distribution rights for this highly regarded brand. Also added this year are Phil Gazeley's Two Thumb putter grips.
