BERND WIESBERGER WINS SCOTTISH OPEN 2019

Bernd Wiesberger won the Scottish Open to secure a sixth European Tour title after beating Benjamin Hebert in a play-off at The Renaissance Club.

Overnight leader Wiesberger was two under par for the day and 22 under overall with France’s Hebert having finished with a nine-under round of 62.

But the Austrian triumphed in the third sudden death hole at the 18th.

Hebert, England’s Andrew Johnston and Italian Nino Bertasio qualify for the Open after finishing in the top 10.

But Johnston’s countryman Lee Slattery and Welshman Jamie Donaldson miss out on places at Royal Portrush after finishing one shot further behind.

Northern Ireland’s four-time major winner Rory McIlroy finished tied for 34th after a two-under 69 took him to 13 under.

Calum Hill and Scott Jamieson finished best out of the 15 home favourites, both carding five-under par rounds of 66 on Sunday to both finish on 15 under, which was a share of 26th place.

MATTHEW WOLFF WINS HIS FIRST PGA TOUR

American Matthew Wolff says his life has “changed forever” after winning a PGA Tour title in his fourth event.

The 20-year-old eagled the 18th at the 3M Open in Twin Cities in the United States, rolling in a 26-foot putt from the fringe for a one-shot win over Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa.

It means he can play on the PGA Tour until 2021, and has entry to next year’s Masters and US PGA Championship.

“It’s a really special feeling,” said Wolff, who finished on 21-under-par.

“I just proved to myself I can be out here.”

Wolff was playing in only his fourth PGA Tour event and only his third as a professional.

Of his eagle on the last, he said: “I was shaking, to be honest. A lot of my putts weren’t going in today, and I was just kind of telling myself one’s bound to drop in.

“It happened at the right time. I just gave it a chance and it went over the right spot that I pointed out. And as soon as it dropped, the tears started coming.”

He became the youngest winner on the PGA Tour since Jordan Spieth in 2013.

PARK SUNG-HYUN BACK AT WORLD NUMBER ONE AFTER WIN

South Korea’s Park Sung-hyun is set to reclaim the world number one spot in women’s golf after winning the NW Arkansas Championship.

The two-time major winner, 25, birdied the final hole for a five-under-par 65 which sealed a one-shot victory and her seventh LPGA title.

Fellow South Koreans Inbee Park and Kim Hyo-joo, plus American Danielle Kang, shared second on 17 under.

Park is expected to take over the top spot from compatriot Ko Jin-young.

Ko helped her celebrate, dousing Park with water on the 18th green at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas, as the 54-hole tournament concluded.

HANNAH GREEN WINS AT HAZELTINE NATIONAL, WOMEN’S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

Australia’s Hannah Green won her first major title as she held off defending champion Park Sung-hyun to win the Women’s PGA Championship.

Green, 22, is ranked 114th in the world and had never won an LPGA event before the tournament at Hazeltine National.

England’s Mel Reid held the clubhouse lead on six under as overnight leader Green faltered around the turn.

Park made birdie on the last to reach eight under but Green escaped a bunker to putt for par and win by one stroke.

After rolling in the key putt from around 10 feet on the 18th, she was mobbed by friends on the green and wiped tears from her eyes moments later.

“I am pretty much speechless,” she said after her win at the Minnesota course.

“I was really nervous playing the last five holes and I’m just happy to make that putt on the last. It really is surreal.

US OPEN PREDICTOR QUIZ — GARY WOODLAND WIN HIS MAIDEN MAJOR AT US OPEN

_________

US Open Predictor Quiz

American Gary Woodland won his first major golf tournament yesterday with a three-shot victory at the US Open held at Pebble Beach.

Diamond Golf customer Ian Marshall from Grimsby won the DGI Predictor Quiz.

He pipped two Wishon Golf customers – David Finegar from Bullfrog Golf in Missouri and Bob Dodds from Vermont Golf Works in Florida. They all had selected Brooks Koepka in second place which earned them 200 points. However Ian was placed first as he had picked the most unfancied team ie players with the fewest world ranking points. He wins the Wishon Golf PCF Micro Pro wedges. David and Bob will both receive something from the Wishon Golf merchandise cupboard.

Hampshire’s Justin Rose finished in joint third place behind another former US Open Champion Brooks Koepka. Rose had started the day in second place and tied for the lead after hole 1 of his final round however he moved steadily backwards from then onwards.

Young Norwegian amateur Victor Hovland made a real name for himself by beating Jack Nicklaus’s 59-year-old amateur scoring record for the US Open. Viktor took 280 shots (four under par) for his 72-hole score at Pebble Beach beating Jack’s 282 in 1960 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Englewood, Colorado.

Watch out for Viktor as he turns professional this week and heads to the Travellers Championship looking for his first pro paycheck.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy shot a nine-under 61 to win the Canadian Open by seven shots for his 16th PGA Tour title.

A birdie at the 18th would have given him a round of 59 but he bogeyed after finding a greenside bunker.

It is the perfect preparation for the US Open, the third men’s major of the year, which begins on Thursday.

“I just got it going out of the gates,” said McIlroy. “I said at the start of the day I wanted to be aggressive.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, he added: “I played with so much freedom over the weekend, more freedom than I’ve had for a while, which is exciting.

“To get a win going into next week is huge.”

SOUTH KOREA’S JEONG-EUN LEE6 WINS US WOMEN’S OPEN — PREDICTOR QUIZ

South Korea’s Jeong-eun Lee6 has won her first major and $1m with a two-shot victory at the US Women’s Open.

Lee, 23, who shot a one-under-par 70 to finish on six under, trailed overnight leaders Celine Boutier and Yu Liu by two shots at the start of the day, but their challenge faded in Charleston.

Americans Angel Yin and Lexi Thompson and Korean Ryu So-yeon were tied for second place on four under.

England’s Charley Hull and world number one Ko Jin-young finished on level par.

Lee has added the number 6 to her name because she was the sixth player called Jeong-eun Lee on the Korean LGPA.

“That’s why they put it down as Jeong-eun Lee6,” she said. “But this is my lucky number too, so I would love to put it down as Lee6 as my last name.”

She is the 16th player from South Korea to win a major, the most of any country other than the US.

TIGER WINS THE MASTERS IN COMEBACK — ONLINE DG & WG 2019 CATALOGUES — 2019 MASTERS PREDICTOR QUIZ RESULT

Tiger Woods received his fifth Masters title at the weekend, his 15th major win. He finished with a two-under-par 70 to win on 13 under, one clear of fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka.

“Victory caps a remarkable resurgence for Woods, who missed the 2016 and 2017 Masters with back problems before finally undergoing back fusion surgery in April of that year.

A superb 2018 followed where he challenged at The Open before finishing joint sixth and pushed eventual champion Koepka close at the US PGA Championship.

He then capped off the season by winning the Tour Championship for his 80th PGA Tour title and this victory puts him one behind the record of 82 held by Sam Snead.

Overnight leader Francesco Molinari’s hopes sunk with two double bogeys on the back nine and he had to settle for a share of fifth on 11 under after a two-over 74.

Ian Poulter’s chances ended after he hit his tee shot into the water on the 12th and he closed with a 73 for a share of 12th on eight under, three shots ahead of fellow Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who carded rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.”

Lamkin

Lamkin Corporation – the original manufacturer of premium golf grips – would like to congratulate the winner of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai on his incredible season that has finished with him taking the #1 spot at the top of the European Tour rankings.

Equipped with Lamkin’s TS1 grips, Europe’s #1 has had the season of his life that has included victory at the European Tour’s flagship BMW PGA Championship, his first PGA Tour victory at the Quicken Loans National, his first Major at the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie, and an unprecedented 5 points from 5 for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup in Paris.

Europe’s new #1 switched to Lamkin’s TS1 grips in April, shortly before his win at the BMW PGA Championship. The new grips, in a customised Blue color, feature Lamkin’s revolutionary GENESIS compound and utilise FINGERPRINT TECHNOLOGY micro-textures for unmatched feel and responsiveness. A reduced-taper shape reduces excess grip tension for a more fluid swing. The Tour-inspired TS1 is exceptionally durable and maintains a consistent feel in al weather conditions.
